LELO BURTY GAME IN GEORGIA
On Easter Sunday, as every year, two teams compete in a game of Lelo Burti. This traditional sport is played since the 12th century and is now only played once a year in this form.
The sport is similar to rugby with a ball that must weigh at least 16 kilos filled with sand and wine. The start of the game is given by the parish priest and at the end of the game the ball is placed on the grave of a person who died during the year.
